For the History Buffs

The nearby county town of Dorchester has a rich history. Its origins can be traced to the Iron Age, with evidence of settlement found in the form of earthworks and artifacts. However, it was during the Roman occupation that Dorchester truly flourished, known then as Durnovaria. The Romans left their mark in the form of intricate mosaics, remnants of walls and an amphitheatre, Maumbury Rings, which today stand as testament to their enduring influence.
