Came Down Golf Club are looking forward to welcoming you to West Dorset for your 2025 golf break. Our historic golf course is always in tip-top condition, thanks to our hardworking greenkeepers. Set on a chalk base with excellent drainage, you can enjoy a challenging but fun round. As you play, you’ll be treated to incredible panoramic views of the Dorset countryside, the historic County Town Dorchester and Coastal resort Weymouth, making each hole even more memorable.
Our inclusive and welcoming community ensures that everyone feels at home, whether you're a seasoned golfer, new to the game or back at it after a break. After your round, relax in our cosy clubhouse, where you can tuck into a hearty meal or enjoy a drink while soaking up the atmosphere. We also offer great practice facilities to help you hone your skills, PGA pros to guide you along the way.

Local History
The area around Came Down is steeped in rich history and heritage. Dorchester, just a short distance away, is a town filled with Roman roots and literary connections. The county town is the birthplace of famous author Thomas Hardy, whose works are deeply inspired by the landscapes of Dorset. The surrounding countryside is part of the Jurassic Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage site, known for its geological significance and dramatic natural beauty. Founded in 1896 as Dorchester Golf Club, Came Down has a proud history itself, with strong links to some of golf’s most important institutions, including The R&A, The Ryder Cup, The Open, Harry Colt and even the origin of ‘The Bogey’.

West Dorset Events 2025
Dorset always has such a varied events schedule, covering food, music, agriculture and more. 2025 is no exception – here are just a few to visit during your golf break:
Wessex Folk Festival – Weymouth Harbour, 31st May-1st June
One of the most well-known folk festivals in the UK, this long-standing event attracts visitors from across the country. There will be two stages featuring local musicians, as well as trade stalls along the harbour, workshops and of course, the event’s signature Morris dancing throughout the weekend.
Dorset Sunflower Trail – Maiden Castle Farm, Dorchester, August
Experience the beauty of vast sunflower fields in full bloom. Wander along picturesque trails with plenty of great photo opportunities.
Dorchester Cider Festival – Borough Gardens, 16th August
Discover a diverse range of the region's finest ciders, complemented by great food and live music throughout the day in the relaxed atmosphere of the Victorian park.
Portland Rocks Festival – 29th-31st August
A new three-day family-friendly celebration of local artists, with live music, food vendors, fairground rides and activities for all ages. The festival raises money for Island Community Action and offers camping options for attendees.
Dorset County Show – Dorchester Showground, 6-7th September
This annual event celebrates Dorset's rich agricultural heritage and rural life, featuring horse jumping, a dog show, a motorbike display, vintage vehicle parade, axe throwing and even a ferret race!

For the adrenaline junkies, you can speed along the Jurassic Coast with Jurassic Jet Ski Tours in Weymouth to iconic spots like Durdle Door. For another exhilarating thrill, join Weymouth Bay RIB Charters for a powerboat tour of the bay or a cruise to Lulworth or Portland Bill. You may even spot a dolphin or two!
